CHRONODROP: A Smart Watch Inspired by the Flow of Time

CHRONODROP stands out with its simple and beautifully designed features. The watch face is adorned with a waterdrop-shaped minute hand, surrounded by a LED hour hand and two circular LCD screens. The white edge of the watch face is a touch wheel screen, which not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also prevents unintentional touches, a common issue in previous smartwatch designs.

One of the standout features of CHRONODROP is its rotatable waterdrop-shaped strap locks and strap holes, which further emphasize the design concept. These details, along with the overall waterdrop-inspired design, serve as a reminder of the importance of everyday moments.

When it comes to functionality, CHRONODROP does not disappoint. It incorporates a touch screen wheel on the white edge of the product, similar to the one found in the iPod classic. The modified Quartz movement allows for the rotation of the waterdrop-shaped minute hand, adding a unique and interactive element to the watch. The watch also features LCD screens, a 3-axis accelerometer, NFC, GPS navigator, and Bluetooth technology.

With its aluminum bezel and case, high-quality plastic/silicon band, and 10 ATM water resistance, CHRONODROP is not only stylish but also durable and suitable for everyday wear. The watch is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, thanks to the Chronodrop app.

Beomjun Sohn, the designer behind CHRONODROP, aimed to create a smart watch that would appeal to consumers not only for its functionality but also as a fashion item. The design challenges were significant, as Sohn strived to combine fashion, function, and conceptual value in a small 4.6cm diameter device. The result is a watch that seamlessly blends technology and style, offering a unique user experience.

The CHRONODROP project began in October 2014 in South Korea and was completed in January 2015. The design received a patent acceptance from the Korean Office of Patent Administration in June 2015. It has since been recognized for its excellence and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2016.
